Konstanz und Wandel in der Sprache: Theorie und Empirie
(Stability and change in language: theoretical and empirical approaches)
This cluster of research projects has just been launched by the University of
Marburg on the basis of financial support from the Hessian Ministry for
Science and Arts through the LOEWE programme. In combining work on
language variation, language change and language processing, and by using
the rich material on German dialects available in Marburg, the project aims to
models of language which take the role of stability, change and variation in
language seriously.
This project cluster offers research positions for the following projects, for a
period of up to two years:
1. Language processing and linguistic micro-variation (Prof. Ina Bornkessel-
Schlesewsky, Prof. Jürgen Schmidt)
2. Tracing the fate of schwa: interaction of prosody and morphology in the
history of German (Prof. Jürg Fleischer, Prof. Richard Wiese)
3. The grammar and use of attributive marking in the history of Aramaic
(Prof. Stefan Weninger, Dr. Michael Waltisberg)
The cluster will contain additional projects.
Most positions will be half-time positions (BATIIa/2 according to the German
public service pay scale), to be filled by doctoral students. Prior experience in
fields relevant for the projects described is required. In exceptional cases,
researchers holding a doctorate or equivalent can be hired for a full-time
position (BATIIa). This position would include co-ordinating responsibilities
for the over-all research cluster.
