"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Program Description: This interdisciplinary program links textual studies in English with technologies and applications in Film Studies, Digital Media, Computer Science, Psychology, and other areas. Linkages include the Institute for Simulation and Training and other leading edge technologies being developed in our renowned Research Park, one of the ten largest in the nation. The University of Central Florida itself is growing dramatically and is now among the ten largest in the nation.

The curriculum includes core courses in theory, history, and research methods, numerous elective opportunities within and beyond English studies, a practical internship and a teaching practicum. Recent research areas are wide-ranging, including knowledge architecture, distributed learning, electronic entertainment, digital rhetoric, health information distribution, and visualization.
