| Program Description: |
APPLIED LINGUISTICS uses the findings of education, linguistics, psychology, and related sciences to identify and address language-related problems, especially those pertaining to the acquisition and teaching of second languages. Applied linguists carry out research in teacher education, design and development of instructional materials, testing and evaluation, and uses of technology in language learning, among other things.
At Texas Tech University we specialize in second and foreign language education theory and practice with a strong emphasis on classroom research. From Fall, 2007, we will be joined by Dr. Bill VanPatten and will be developing a doctoral program in Second Language Studies. We also have an exchange program with Yeditepe University where graduate students can study and concurrently teach English as a Foreign Language in Turkey with nearly all expenses paid. |
| Available Financial Aid: | Teaching assistantships in ESL, Japanese, Manadarin, Spanish, German, French, and some less commonly taught languages. |
