Program Description:

For students who want to pursue in-depth and especially field-based research on languages, the University of Manitoba is an ideal setting. Our graduate programs are flexible, and offer a lot of individual attention. The individual interests of our faculty cover a broad range of research areas, and the area's ethnic diversity provides a rich linguistic environment. Our students' graduate programs have most often involved original fieldwork, either in the local indigenous languages or as far afield as China and the South Pacific.

At the undergraduate level, the department offers both general and advanced majors in Linguistics. The Advanced Major with a Pre-Professional Concentration in Applied Linguistic Science is a specially designed curriculum intended to help students prepare for graduate studies in Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology. The department also offers courses as part of the joint ASL/English Interpretation program (along with Red River College).
