| Program Description: |
The Linguistics Program focuses on linguistics as one of the cognitive sciences. The research of the faculty is focused on understanding the mathematical character, biological basis, and social contexts of linguistic phenomena. The core areas--phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics--are well represented among the specializations of the faculty, as well as important subfields and related areas including sociolinguistics, neurolinguistics, and first language acquisition. In addition we have specialists in a number of language areas including Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese, and the Bantu languages.
The MA and Ph.D. programs strive toward interdisciplinary research, and students are encouraged to gain research experience in both theoretical and experimental approaches to linguistics. Follow the links below for more information: |
