"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. The Iran Language Institute announces the 2nd Conference on ELT in the Islamic World in Tehran, Iran, on December 6-7, 2012. The conference aims at providing a platform for global academic exchange on the key principles underpinning the teaching, learning, and assessing of English as a foreign language (EFL) across the Islamic world. Venturing into different aspects of the various thematic categories, the conference seeks to create a dialogue between scholars, researchers, and practitioners to share their expertise and explore their research perspectives on a wide range of ELT-related topics. The two conference days will feature sessions based on a number of keynote speeches, invited and contributed papers, as well as poster presentations.
