"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC) of the University of Amsterdam is pleased to announce that it will host EUROSLA 23, the 23rd conference of the European Second Language Association from 28 to 31 August, 2013. Plenary speakers are: Alison Mackey (Georgetown University, Washington DC and Lancaster University), Marianne Nikolov (University of Pécs), Pavel Trofimovich (Concordia University Montreal), and Rens Bod (University of Amsterdam). The theme of this year’s Language Learning roundtable is: ‘Acquisition Orders in SLA: Perspectives from Emergentism and Dynamic Systems Theory.’

EUROSLA is a society for people with a research interest in Second Language Acquisition. It unites a large, international group of scholars. Its yearly conferences feature presentations on all areas of second language acquisition.
