"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. We would like to invite you to participate in the II International scientific interdisciplinary conference ‘Ethnicity, Language and Culture: Past, Present, Future’ to be held on 18-19 April 2013 at the Rivne Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education, Rivne, Ukraine.

The ‘Ethnicity, Language and Culture: Past, Present, Future’ is the II International scientific interdisciplinary conference on the question of ethnic identity and conceptualization of spiritual, cultural, social and educational dimensions of the national life in language, arranged by the Rivne Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education. It brings together researchers from a broad range of academic disciplines, working within different theoretical and methodological paradigms in a creative, internationally oriented and friendly atmosphere. The importance of national and ethnical language domains is now generally recognised, and the conference offers an opportunity to present and learn about research findings concerning ethnical senses uses in different types of human communication, and their cognitive, cultural, narrative, poetic, rhetorical, social, textual or discourse functions.
