"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The next Meeting of the Slavic Linguistics Society will take place at the University of Szczecin. This will be the eighth in a series of annual conferences that provide a forum to share both research findings and ideas on Slavic linguistics. A monographic publication of articles is expected to be one of the outcomes of the event.

Participation in the meetings of the SLS is a privilege of membership; this means that an individual must be a current member in order to present a paper and be listed in the conference program. You may fill out a membership form at the same time you register for the conference online. Membership includes a subscription to the Journal of Slavic Linguistics.
