Naz Rassool (University of Reading)

KEY FEATURES

Bristol

through its emphasis on importance of orality, literacy and cultural
power
- Focus on development in different societies makes it a useful addition
to development studies and comparative education

DESCRIPTION
The book discusses the complexities that surround literacy in the modern
world. It examines prevailing definitions and views of literacy and
evaluates these against the new technological skills and knowledge
demands of the information society. Within a world increasingly

'multiliteracies' and adequate levels of communicative competence in
facilitating effective participation in the democratic process.

COMPUTERS AND TALK IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM
Edited by Rupert Wegerif & Peter Scrimshaw (Open University, UK)

This book explores the contentious and increasingly important issue
of how computers are being used in Primary classrooms and how they
could be used. It approaches the issue from the perspective of spoken
language because the authors of the book believe that this is the
most important medium for classroom education.
