(Marburg/mw) Because of bandwith limitations and increased net traffic, European linguists interested in Optimality Theory often had trouble connecting to the Rutgers Optimality Archive (ROA) in a fast and reliable way. This may quickly become an experience of the past with today's launch of ROA-EM, an European Mirror of ROA located at

    http://www.uni-marburg.de/linguistik/roa

ROA-EM provides a second source of the entire repository of ROA papers, faithfully updated each night to mirror the original. Independent search facilities are provided for easy access to its contents.

Simultaneously, linguistics at Marburg University proudly presents its new electronic working paper series `Marburger Arbeiten zur Linguistik' (MAL) at

    http://www.uni-marburg.de/linguistik/mal

Users of ROA-EM will immediately feel at home here, because MAL is just another instance of the same archive technology. The first paper in the archive is a technical report entitled `One-Level Prosodic Morphology' (64pp).

According to archive developers Markus Walther and Tjark Albers, free open-source software on top of the popular Linux operating system was the key to a successful implementation of both services.

Linguists worldwide are hereby encouraged to use both sites in their daily work as well as providing feedback for improvements (send problem reports, if any, to Markus.Walthermailer.uni-marburg.de).
