Subject: Language attitudes
The Colloquium for Postgraduates and Postdoctorates "Dynamics of
Substandardvarieties" at University of Heidelberg in Germany is
currently engaged in research on language attitudes.
We have different reseach projects in the field of empirical
and historical sociolinguistics.
We cope with questions concerning
- the concept of attitudes within
sociolinguistics and neighbouring disciplines
- the limitations of the concept of attitudes (what can be exlained and
what cannot be explained by the concept?)
- How do attitudes emerge and how are they passed on?
- How do you convert the theoretical concept of attitudes into empirical
research?
- interaction of attitudes and speech behaviour? Do attitudes influence
spech behaviour?
- historical sociolinguistics: can attitudes explain speech development
processes?
- language awareness
- social and linguistic identity
We would very much like to exchange ideas and discuss them with
individuals or groups of other universities.
If you are working on any of the above mentioned fields and are
interested in an exchange via mail or possibly in an
invitation to Heidelberg,
please contact with a scetch of your research
