    Dear all,

Our research group (from Psycholgy, UCL) is currently undertaking a survey into the relationship between bilingualism/multilingualism and stuttering. It should take only 5-10 minutes to fill in the questionnaire on the WWW.

Although the study seems to be interested in bilingual speakers, the participation of monolingual speakers ARE VITAL to our study as well. We need a base line to compare the results.

This survey can now be accessed through the internet at: http://www.speech.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/survey1/bilingual.html and more information can be found at: http://www.speech.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/survey1/Q_info.html

The results of our questionnaire are updated automatically each day and are posted at:

    http://www.speech.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/survey1/update.html

for those interested. I would be happy to send out hardcopy of the questionnaire if required. We would appreciate your participation and please circulate this message. Thanks, James Au-Yeung, PhD Senior Research Fellow email: jamespsychol.ucl.ac.uk

Dear collegues over the whole world,

First of all I want to give thanks to all of you who replied to my first mail. The data with which you provided me will support my comparative work very much.

Second, I want to start a further request. For my dissertation on the comparative syntax of sentential complements in Indo European, I still need data from some language groups. Above all, I would like to have more insights into the Indo-Iranian languages. To have data from Albanian and some more from Slavonic would be nice, too.

The idea is to have exactly the same sentences in each language. Therefore I would like to send a list of about 15 short sentences to you, either in English, French or German. I would ask you to translate them to your language and give glosses.

At the moment I cannot offer more than my appreciation. Of course I would offer any help I could give with my native knowledge of German and my technical know how in grammatical theory.

    Thank you for consideration,

    Peter Oehl

    Dear Linguists,

A colleague of mine is doing research on argumentation structure in U.S. newspapers. She would like to have some up-to-date information about them: sales, degree of sensationalism, circulation, etc. She is especially interested in USA Today, and how it compares to other national newspapers in readership. Would any of you know where she can access such data?

    You can e-mail her directly:

    Thanks in her name,
