Dear Linguistlisters, I am teaching "Linguistic Aspects of Bilingualism" this fall at McGill in the Linguistic Department. I have looked over a number of possible textbooks on Bilingualism/Multilingualism but I haven't found one that adequately covers the *LINGUISTIC* aspects. For example, while all texts on bilingualism discuss code-switching, they tend to cover the sociological aspects of this only. This is interesting stuff, and material I will cover but I would also like to cover the GRAMMATICAL constraints on code-switching as in say, Ellen Woolford's seminal article in Linguistic Inquiry 1983. Does anyone know of a *textbook* that includes such material in conjunct with topics on bilingualism? Please respond to cyvemusica.mcgill.ca Thanks in advance for your efforts. Best, Veena Dwivedi

I am looking for languages that have both vowel harmony and consonants with secondary articulation (preferably of the same type--e.g. labialized Cs with labial harmony, palatalized Cs with front/back harmony, pharyngealized Cs with ATR/RTR harmony-- though any examples would be helpful). For example, Turkish has front/back harmony and palatalized consonants.

If you know of any such languages, please e-mail me the name of the language and where it is spoken. If you happen to know a good reference, that would also be helpful.

Thank you very much, Susannah Levi svleviu.washington.edu

I shall be thankful if someone could let me know of any universities, specially in Europe and in Japan, where research in computational linguistics is done.
