Subject: about "acknowledge" in air traffic communication
Hello my colleagues,
The word "acknowledge" is a term which is used in the air traffic
communication. It means the manner of giving and getting back the same
information in radiophone communication between the controller and the
pilot concerning the aeroplane, like as its flight number, its
placement, its flight level and so on. In the special terminology of
the air traffic they call it "readback" and "hearback" of the the
instructions or of the clearence. I would like to ask you if you have
some references for this interesting subject, for exemple in
psychological framework, or in any. And if not, mayby your own ideas
about repeating messages between two people in general.
I would be very happy for your help

Subject: First Use of Variation Theory
Hi,
I am looking for the first use of the term "Variation Theory" (referring to
(sociolinguistic) study of language variation and change) in sociolinguistic
literature. Does anyone know its godfather/mother, christening place (book,
article, etc.) and the date of birth? Any relevant information is welcome, and
a summary will he posted upon request.
[Please note that I am NOT looking for the origin of variation theory as a
paradigm; this is simply a terminological inquiry about when and where the term
was used for the first time by whom.]
Thanks a million,
Kejiro Matsuda
