Subject: New Website/'eLr' - Extra Language Resources
Dear Colleague,
As a fellow Speech Pathologist or language/literacy specialist, I invite you to
visit eLr ("Extra Language Resources"), an interactive resources Web site,
http://www.elr.com.au . A free trial is available at
http://www.elr.com.au/elrtrial.htm via a temporary registration (you may
request another any time you wish).
eLr currently has over 2,000 separate interactive activities, each comprising
multiple items, covering some 425 target areas in Phonology, Phonemic Awareness
and Reading and Spelling. New activities are continually being prepared - for
example, we are currently working on Semantics, which will include additional
activities for acquired (aphasia) and developmental language disorders. The eLr
site features both PCS and COMPIC pictographs, as well as many text based
exercises.
This site and all activities have been produced by myself (Toni Seiler) and Anna
Breakell (practicing Speech Pathologists) and my husband Rob Seiler, a computer
programmer. Our aim is to provide speech, language and literacy specialists,
teachers and parents with a comprehensive set of resources which can be accessed
anywhere directly from the Web.
Subscribers to the site are able to open each specific task(s) from an on-line,
goal orientated Directory, and are also able to provide their own clients free
"Guest" access to enable home practice. All users have immediate access to new
materials or revisions as they occur.
To use eLr, you will need MS Internet Explorer (version 4.1 or higher) for
Windows as the eLr site relies extensively on dynamic HTML features that other
browsers and operating systems do not yet offer. To get a better understanding of
our design principles and clinical usage we suggest you also read -
"eLr Design Principles" - http://www.elr.com.au/support/design.htm
"Hints for using eLr" - http://www.elr.com.au/support/elrhints.htm
and "FAQ's" - http://www.elr.com.au/support/elrfaq.htm
We would welcome any feedback and please feel free to add a link to eLr on your
site if you wish.
Thank you

Rob Seiler, PhD (Cornell Univ, NY), Dip Comp Sc (Deakin Univ, Aus)
