Qs: Prosody/Portugese, Error Analysis/Phonology
Editor for this issue: Karen Milligan <karenlinguistlist.org>
We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: topic-comment and their relationship to prosody in Portuguese.
Dear all,
I am a grad student in NY state trying hard to find information for an
upcoming paper in an Intonational phonology (prosody) Course offered
in French [to date I have studied Ladd (1999) and Rossi (1978-1999)].
Since Portuguese is my first language, the prof suggested I look at
"thme-propos" ("topic-comment") in Portuguese and what effect prosody
had on that structure.
The LLBA and MLA research I have done has led me to many articles on
Mandarin and Arabic but nothing specific to Portuguese. The relevant
citations I have found are in articles/journals I cannot
access...alas! (Estudos Linguisticos 1999, etc.)
I was, therefore, wondering if anyone out there could help shed some
light on this matter for me. I would greatly appreciate any help I
can get.
Cheers,
Greg

I'm an italian student of English at the "Universitaet Bielefeld"
(Germany). I am writing a paper about error analysis (with regard to
phonology) related to adult students of English. I already collected
some material about this issue, but need your help in finding
a specific bibliography (or web-sites) about adult (exclusively) L2
acquisition, especially about the treatment of phonologic errors that
adult may make when pronouncing English words.
Thanks in advance.
best regards
