    POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST (FULL TIME)

Centre for Developmental Language Disorders and Cognitive Neuroscience, Department of Human Communication Science

The Centre for Developmental Language Disorders and Cognitive Neuroscience has a further opening for a full time postdoctoral research scientist from June, 2002. An opportunity exists for this position to lead to a lectureship in the Department.

The successful applicant will be asked to lead a component of an overall research programme funded by the Wellcome Trust on the cognitive function and structure of sentence processing in children with SLI and children developing normally. The work explores theoretical issues related to the current controversy surrounding the development and organisation of specialised cognitive functions by investigating typically and atypically developing children and teenagers. The exact nature of the experiments will partly depend on the research expertise of the successful applicant; but will involve psycholinguistic investigations of sentence processing which aim to complement high-density ERP recordings at the Centre to elucidate the development of specialised cognitive functions, such as grammar, the relations between grammar and semantics and non-linguistic cognitive abilities, and generally, the underlying nature of SLI. Closing date: Until position is filled. Informal inquiries: Prof. Heather van der Lely (h.vanderlelyucl.ac.uk). Please send CV, names and addresses of two referees and samples of published work (e.g., 1-2 papers) to: Centre for Developmental Language Disorders and Cognitive Neuroscience, Dept of Human Communication Science, UCL, Chandler House, 2 Wakefield Street, London, WC1N 1PF, UK.
