    THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG

    Post-doctoral Fellow in Computational and/or Corpus Linguistics

    Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Computational and/or Corpus Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics, tenable from as soon as possible but in any case not later than January 31, 2003. The appointment will be made for a period of 2 to 3 years.

    The Department of Linguistics has a very active research programme, covering the areas of phonetics and experimental phonetics, theoretical and descriptive linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics, and computational and corpus linguistics. Within computational and corpus linguistics, the Department has in the last few years been conducting research in speech recognition and synthesis, natural language processing, and corpus linguistics with special reference to Chinese and Cantonese. Research in these areas is supported by funding and facilities, including a Phonetics Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory, and a Laboratory for Language and Cognitive Neuroscience.     Applicants should have a relevant Ph.D. degree obtained within the last three years, and experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: speech recognition and/or speech synthesis, natural language understanding, corpus construction and annotation.

    The appointment will normally be made on the first point of the 4-point scale: HK$378,240 - 497,580 per annum.

    At current rates, salaries tax will not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment carries leave and medical /dental benefits.
