    Chemnitz University of Technology

In connection with the advancement of research within the framework of junior research groups offered by the BMBF, a post is available forthwith in the Faculty of Humanities for

    Outstanding Junior Academics (Junior Professorship)

    in the field of

"Intercultural Training (with Special Focus on Exchange Programmes and International Relations)"

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct teaching and research primarily in the subject components Understanding Foreign Cultures and Behaviour in the field of Intercultural Communication. In particular, candidates should have a proven record in empirical research in international exchanges and/or the effects of sojourns abroad, plus specialist publications. Furthermore, an interdisciplinary approach, experience of foreign countries and above-average foreign language skills are required. A willingness and an ability to hold classes in English are prerequisites.

All other tasks are set out in paragraph 38 of the Saxon university law (Schsisches Hochschulgesetz). The post is being offered in anticipation of the proposed adoption of the law governing universities (HRG) by Saxon state law. Employment will be in accordance with the current Saxon university law pertaining to the appointment of professors, subject to the conditions of appointment set out in paragraph 47 of the HRG. Apart from pedagogical aptitude, a further requirement of this position is an outstanding PhD qualification - going back no more than five years - that evinces specific qualification in the field of the appointment. Until the employment law reform is adopted by state law, the appointment will, initially, be as an assistant lecturer or academic staff member based on an unofficial pay scale. Further, the position will be limited to three years, but with the possibility of an extension. Salary will be in line with the current provisions regarding such a post (IIa or Ib BAT-O). Should legal, budgetary and personal prerequisites allow, the appointment is contingent upon its promised transition into a junior professorship. In this case, the position will be adjusted to the regulations in force at that time (salary according to W1, observing the social security regulations). The period of employment already served will be taken into account.

Chemnitz University of Technology is committed to promoting women and would urge qualified women to apply. In cases of equal suitability, preference will be given to disabled candidates. The original advertisement in German, available at http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/juniorprofessuren, provides more details on the conditions of employment. Please send applications and the customary documentation (CV/academic background, record of academic publications, list of classes taught, copies of degree certificates) by 10 May 2002 to the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

Linguists or Intercultural Trainers with linguistic competences are encouraged to apply.
