    Hello all!

A well known Belgian research and consultancy company will be conducting a language testing research project soon. Our aim is to find as many people as we can to help fill out the language tests in 3 languages, English, French and Dutch. The tests (14 of them as described by Bachman and Palmer in their publication LANGUAGE TESTING IN PRACTICE) will assess language competencies. If you are interested to participate in this research, please contact me at address below. We will also provide you with results of your test(s).

    Thank you.

Message 3: New e-mail list: PHONETICS

    Subject: New e-mail list: PHONETICS

PHONETICS is a new, internationally-oriented e-mail discussion list for anybody teaching, studying, or just interested in phonetics. Although there is currently a "Teaching of Phonetics" list (see http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/phonet.html), where you will find some of the biggest names in the field, there was up till now no list for general discussion of phonetics by *students*. PHONETICS hopes to at least partly fill this need.

Teachers of phonetics are encouraged to get their students to subscribe to PHONETICS, so they can develop their interest in and knowledge of phonetics outside of the classroom as well as in. Teachers are invited to subscribe as well, so they can be around to answer questions and guide the discussion when needed. PHONETICS can also serve as a time-efficient resource to turn to for phonetic information on specific languages - there are already people on the list from many different countries encompassing five continents who should be able to help with questions about their native languages and other languages they know.

To subscribe to PHONETICS, go to the subscription form at: http://ccms.ntu.edu.tw/~karchung/phon1index.htm or send a blank e-mail to: phonetics-subscribetopica.com. More information on this list is available at: http://www.topica.com/lists/phonetics

You will need to wade through some advertising to complete your registration with Topica (Topica provides their discussion list services for *free*), but please do not be put off by it; it's a one-time process. Hope to hear from you over PHONETICS soon!
