Qs: Project Gutenberg, Eng Word Formation/Survey

Editor for this issue: Karen Milligan <karenlinguistlist.org>

We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query.

    Hello,

I have created string frequency reports for 5400+ books from Project Gutenberg: http://iama.rrecktek.com/text/frequency/

    searchable here: http://iama.rrecktek.com/cgi-bin/apps/wordfind/searchpg.pl

process is described briefly here: http://iama.rrecktek.com/text/

I am looking for help in improving the graphs of string frequencies across the archive: Here are a few examples:

I also extended the DAML ontology for PG presented here: http://www.daml.org/ontologies/113

and created RDF metadata for the archive here: http://iama.rrecktek.com/text/frequency/meta/

I am looking for feedback on improvements to the ontology.

thanks for any comments or suggestions.

    Dear Colleagues,

I am approaching you with the following request. I have taken up a research project called "A Sociolinguistic Research into the Productivity of Word-Formation. Being a sociolinguistic research it heavily depends on collecting the necessary information from English native speakers. Therefore, I would be grateful to you for helping me by approaching your friends, acquaintances, children, etc. and asking them for filling in a questionnaire. I can send the questionnaire by e-mail or regular mail. The research is ANONYMOUS.

Thank you very much for your help.

Yours sincerely Professor Pavol Stekauer Department of British and American Studies Faculty of Arts Presov University Slovakia
