    Speech/Language Modelling Scientist

Unique opportunity to work at the leading edge of research and development within natural language speech recognition and be based in the centre of London, UK.

Exciting opportunities for scientists contributing to the design & development of a new class of natural language speech recognition solutions. This role will be part of an international team working towards the production of a true natural language and mixed-initiative Virtual Personal Assistant. The VPA will embody conversational interaction, incorporating multi-modal input and output in a mobile device with access to agenda, email and contacts and the potential for rapid integration of other Internet content. The development of current and new research is required to generate adequate language recognition models for non-trivial domains and the fusion of multi-modal information with updated databases (to feed a mobile 3G service). The project deploys new research in natural language understanding, specifically: (1) Sophisticated dialogue management that adapts to the experience and style of the user; and (2) An advanced language model capable of integrating and unifying several models of linguistic knowledge.

ROLE This is a lead position in unified language modelling and speech recognition where you will invent new approaches to unified or hierarchical language modelling.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Ph.D. in language modelling applied to speech recognition or spoken dialogue systems. Preferably, degree will be in Computer Science or Engineering.

Background in text based processing in Natural Language is not appropriate for this particular post unless this was heavily mathematically based and you have the commensurate degree in Mathematics but the thesis should have advanced mathematically based approaches to language modelling as opposed to using known techniques with a heavy linguistic focus.

Speech Processing experience a plus including an industry track record from a recognised speech company.

You should have experience with Hidden Markov Models and a solid grasp on speech processing as evidenced by course work or thesis.

    DSP experience useful.

COMPANY Dynamic organisation with a well focussed and talented team of developers and scientists working within a stimulating environment. The work will be undertaken in conjunction with an international consortium of industry leaders from the commercial and academic world.

LOCATION London (central) with some opportunities for European/worldwide travel.

SALARY Depending on experience, competitive to secure the most talented and experienced candidates.
