    Description:

    The Center for Spoken Language Research at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in coordination with the Departments of Computer Science and Linguistics, is seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of Chinese natural language processing/natural language understanding. The larger project is focused on shallow semantic parsing of English, Chinese, and Arabic in the context of automatic question-answering. The candidate would be working collaboratively with professors Dan Jurafsky, James Martin, and Wayne Ward, and the graduate students in their lab. Research will include building statistical models of Chinese language semantics, helping assemble labeled corpora, and working collaboratively with students and other researchers. This postdoctoral position lasts through August 2003, with possibilities for extension. The University of Colorado at Boulder and the Center for Spoken Language Research have active programs of research in speech and language understanding as well as computational linguistics and cognitive science. CSLR is located in Boulder, a beautiful town at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

    Required skills: - Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Linguistics - fluency in Chinese - specialization in Natural Language Processing - fluent in C or C++, Perl, and UNIX - ability to work well as part of a team
