Qs: Exocentric Compounds, IPA Font for Palm
Editor for this issue: Karen Milligan <karenlinguistlist.org>
We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: Productivity of British exocentric compounds?
Hi all,
I'm trying to track down a reference for the idea that exocentric
verbal compounds (like push-chair and answerphone) are somewhat
productive in British English and not productive at all in North
American English.
I realize that it may or may not be true that exocentric compounds are
more productive in British English than elsewhere. I am nevertheless
interested in tracking down a reference for the point. I'm sure I read
it somewhere!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does anyone know of an IPA font for the Palm operating system (i.e. a
.pdb file)? I'd like to be able to use my PDA for phonetic
transcription. I've tried creating such a font using FontHack, but
without success.
