Description:
The Linguistics Program at the University of Michigan-Flint invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor
level, starting Fall 2003. The position is for a generalist with
expertise in English linguistics. Teaching responsibilities include
courses in the structure of English, the introduction to linguistics,
the history of English, and linguistic analysis. Additional course
development will be encouraged in complementary areas such as
historical linguistics, syntax, phonology and computational
linguistics. Teaching is primarily undergraduate, with a three-course
load per semester. Faculty members are expected to maintain a
balanced record of excellent teaching, research, and service. A
Ph.D. in Linguistics is required, to be completed within the first
semester of hire.
Housed in the English Department, the Linguistics Program offers an
undergraduate minor and courses to support the English major and both
undergraduate and graduate programs in education and other
disciplines.
The University of Michigan-Flint is a regional campus of the
University of Michigan serving a diverse student body of more than
6,300. The campus is located one hour north of the University of
Michigan campus in Ann Arbor and one hour north of Detroit. UM-Flint
offers day, evening and weekend classes in modern facilities situated
on a forty-two acre riverfront site in downtown Flint.
