    Description: SEEKING: Native Speakers of Various Languages

    Amikai, Inc., a San Francisco company which develops machine translation solutions, is looking for native speakers in the following languages for proofreading and other light language work:

    * Chinese (simplified writing system) * Chinese (traditional writing system) * French * German * Italian * Japanese * Korean * Portuguese * Spanish

    Native speakers are needed for a large-scale project building dictionaries for a machine translation system. The job will include the following tasks:

    * Proofreading machine translated texts for errors; * Gathering word lists and test data; and * Approving the quality of human translations.

    Applicants must:

    * Be a native speaker of one or more of the above languages; * Be fluent in English; * Be knowledgeable about basic grammatical concepts and basic problems in translation; * Have superior organizational skills and attention to detail; * Be familiar with computers, email, and MS Office tool suite; and * Have legal work status in the United States.

    In addition, preference will be given to applicants who:

    * Have translation or interpreting work experience; * Have experience with machine translation software; or * Have training or work experience in lexicography.

    Amikai's offices are located in the Potrero Hill area of San Francisco. Hours are flexible, and the workload will vary from week to week, possibly 0 to 20 hours/week. Because the amount of work will depend on the progress of the project, this job is best suited for someone looking to supplement his or her income. The pay is $15/hour.
