Qs: Spoken Spanish Corpora, Affricates

Editor for this issue: Renee Galvis <reneelinguistlist.org>

We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query.

    Dear linguists!

Presently I am working with, among others, two older corpora of spoken Spanish: 1) ''Encuestas del habla urbana de Sevilla'' (Nivel culto, medio, popular), edited 1983-1992 by Pineda, Ropero, Ollero Toribio & Pineda Porez; 2) ''El habla de la ciudad de Madrid'', edited in 1981 by Esgueva & Cantarero. Does anyone know if there exist electronic versions of these corpora?

    Sincerely, Stefan Schneider (Graz, Austria)

    Subject-Language: Spanish; Code: SPN

Is it the case universally that the continuant phase of an affricate is always strident? Jorge Guitart SUNY Buffalo
