JOB OPPORTUNITY
Research position in Human Language Technology
at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OeFAI),
Vienna, Austria
We offer a position in OeFAI's Natural Language Processing Group, in
the NECA (A Net Environment of Embodied Emotional Conversational
Agents) project funded by the EU's IST Programme. The objective of
NECA is the development and implementation of a system for creating
web applications with embodied conversational agents which show
personality traits and emotion. Key tasks of OeFAI in the project are
* German natural language generation,
* Integration of verbal and nonverbal aspects of communication
including
- the development of a representation language and
- the implementation of a component for animation
assignment.

The candidate should have a strong interest in web applications and
good programming skills, preferably in Java. A background in natural
language generation and/or embodied conversational agents is expected.
She/he has finished her/his diploma or an equivalent degree in
computational linguistics, or computer science or a comparable
study.
A good command of German and/or English is expected.
The project has started October 2001, with a duration of 30 months.
We would like to fill the position by April 1st, 2002, but the exact
starting date is negotiable. The original contract will be for 15
month. Continued employment after that period is possible.
The yearly gross salary - depending on the qualification of the
candidate -
will be up to EURO 39.500,--.
