Description:

Assistant Professor, Anthropology

The University of Arizona Department of Anthropology invites
applications for a tenure-track position in linguistic anthropology at
the Assistant Professor level, to begin in the fall of 2004,
contingent upon availability of funding. The Ph.D. in Anthropology or
related field is required, as is a demonstrated potential for
excellence in teaching and research. The area of specialization is
open. However, we are particularly interested in hearing from
applicants with research and teaching interests in political,
aesthetic and/or affective dimensions of verbal art, in language
socialization, and in pidgins and creoles. For these specializations
we are especially interested in identifying applicants who have
carried out ethnographic research in the Middle East, the Caribbean,
or Sub-Saharan Africa.

Review of materials is currently ongoing and will continue until the
position is filled. Initial review began September 1, 2003. To ensure
consideration, materials must be received by November 3, 2003. To
apply, please submit a letter of application, stating research and
teaching interests (and citing job #26485), curriculum vitae, and the
names and addresses of three references to Professor Susan U. Philips,
Chair, Linguistic Anthropology Search Committee, Department of
Anthropology, University of Arizona, PO Box 210030, Tucson, AZ
