All LSHK members are cordially invited to attend and present papers at the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Annual Research Forum 2003, which will be held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, December 6-7, 2003. Twenty-minute paper presentations (plus ten minutes for discussion) on any areas in linguistics are welcome.

    This year is very special to the Society: the 10th anniversary of the LSHK Cantonese Romanization Scheme or known as Jyutping. To mark this special occasion, a workshop on 'romanization and transcription' will be organized during the ARF. We are soliciting contributions on all aspects of romanization and transcription in Cantonese, Putonghua, and English. This workshop aims to bring us together concentrating on the issues related to the theories of romanization and transcription and their application in different fields.

    Abstracts may be written in either Chinese or English, one page in length on A4 size paper, no less than 400 words (for English) or 800 characters (for Chinese) excluding references, with title, authors name, and affiliation. Include word count at the bottom of the page. Abstracts should be in at least 12 point type with margins of at least 1-inch, singled spaced. Along with the abstract send a separate sheet listing (1) title of the paper, (2) name(s) of the author(s), (3) affiliation(s), (4) mailing address, and (5) email address. Please specify whether the abstract is submitted to the workshop on romanization and transcription.

    Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author, or to two joint abstracts per author.Abstracts are required to be saved in an electronic version (either DOC, RTF, or TXT) and sent to us by email at the following address.
