    Meeting Description:

    The biannual Generative Approaches to Second Language Acquisition (GASLA) Conference is a peer-reviewed meeting devoted to mentalist aspects of second language acquisition such as the description of non-native grammars, similarities and differences between first and second language acquisition, sentence processing in second language acquisition, etc. A workshop may be organized for the day preceding the conference (more info TBA).

    THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO DEC. 15

    Proposals for papers or posters are solicited on any aspect of second language acquisition in the generative paradigm. Paper presentations will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions. Please indicate on your abstract whether you wish your submission to be considered for one category only (please, specify) or for both categories. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words. If possible, please submit your abstract as an e-mail attachment (MS Word or RTF format) to: gasla7indiana.edu. In the body of the e-mail message, include (1) the title of the paper, (2) name and affiliation of the author(s), and (3) the first author's postal and e-mail addresses. Repeat the title in your attached (anonymous) 500 word abstract. Electronic submission is the preferred choice for abstracts. Otherwise, please send 6 copies by regular mail. If not submitting electronically, please include one copy with the afore-mentioned information and 5 copies with no author details.

    The deadline for submission of abstracts is December 15, 2003. Notification about acceptance will go out by January 15, 2004.

    The 7th biannual Generative Approaches to Second Language Acquisition Conference will be held at the Indiana University, April 16-18, 2004. The plenary speakers are:

    Meeting Description:

    The 28th Annual Penn Linguistics Colloquium will take place February 27-29, 2004 at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

    Invited Speaker: Juliette Blevins University of California, Berkeley ''Structure-preserving Sound Change: How and Why?''

    Papers on any topic in linguistics and associated fields are welcome. Speakers will have 20 minutes for their presentations and 5 minutes for discussion and questions.

    Deadline: Abstracts are due by Monday, December 8, 2003. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be given by Wednesday, January 21, 2004.

    Length: Please limit abstracts to one page, single- or double-spaced. An additional page may be used for references and tables. Do not include your name or affiliation within the abstract.

    Format: To facilitate the review process, please submit your abstract as a .pdf file. If you cannot create .pdf files, you may submit a doc, .rtf, or .txt file, and we will convert it for you. However, since phonetic fonts are not likely to output correctly, we ask that you set up a legend using standard ASCII characters.
