Calling contributing authors to write for the Encyclopedia of Linguistics, to be published by Routledge in September 2004. The Encyclopedia will appear in two volumes containing over 600 entries arranged alphabetically, each signed by its author. We are committed to making even the more complex linguistic issues understandable for the non-specialized reader. The approach will be both historical and international, with emphasis on the varied perspectives, figures, and methodologies that make up the field.

This Encyclopedia is intended for use by teachers and students of linguistics and related fields, as well as interested general readers. It is our goal to provide up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of the field in a manner as accessible as possible.

Available articles range from 1000 to 3000 in word length. Our upcoming production schedule requires that we offer the relatively short deadline of Monday, December 29. We are unable to accept articles past that deadline. We offer an honorarium of $50 for every 1000 assigned words or the option to receive a complimentary copy of the Encyclopedia. Should you agree to contribute, we will mail you the contributor agreement for your signature. You can find a complete unassigned list below. For more information regarding style guidelines and sample articles, please visit the project website at http://strazny.com/encyclopedia/index.html. Please email responses to this posting to linguisticstaylorandfrancis.com with your CV attached. We will assign articles on a first come, first serve basis. If you have any questions please let us know. If you are unable to participate, we would welcome your suggestions of other outstanding academics or scholars as potential contributors.

We look forward to hearing from you and to adding your name to our list of distinguished contributors.

    Meeting Description:

XIX CONFERENCE OF THE ASSOCIATION OF YOUNG LINGUISTS (AJL 2004) University of Valencia (Spain) March 10-12, 2004

    Dear colleagues,

The Organising Board of the 19th Conference of the Association of Young Linguists (AJL) to be held in Valencia (Spain) from the 10th to the 12th of March 2004 is sorry to inform about a sudden change in our conference deadline due to unexpected administrative reasons. Please take notice of the new deadline: JANUARY 15TH 2004. We request participants to submit their abstracts or their proposals in due course.

We would also like to inform that our conference dates are close to our regional festivity of Fallas, so that possibilities for accommodation availability will soon be hugely reduced, if not exhausted. This is why we recommend our participants to book as soon as possible. We will be including shortly in our web page all information about accommodation availability and cost.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause you.

    Yours sincerely,

The Board of the 19th AJL Conference.
