In February of 1905, John Dewey, one of the two most famous and influential philosophers in America at the time (the other was William James, Dewey's mentor) took up an appointment at Columbia University. Nine years earlier Franz Boas had also accepted a position at Columbia. They served at Columbia together for roughly the next 31 years. I am looking for evidence of interactions between the two of them at Columbia. I am also interested in discovering evidence of intellectual influence that either might have had on the other.

If readers of the LinguistList have any suggestions or sources that might provide evidence for institutional or intellectual contact or influence of one of these scholars on the other, I would be very grateful to hear of them. I will post a summary to this list if there is a nonnegligible response.
