The Department of English and German Philology at the University of
Zaragoza (Spain) is organizing the XII Susanne Hbner Seminar to be
held in November 2003. Scholars working in any of the following fields
are welcome to participate:
-Corpus design and methodology.
-Application of corpora: implications for language teaching, discourse
analysis, translation, register and genre analysis, lexicography and
diachronic research.
While corpus linguistics is generally understood as studies on
computerized corpora, research papers based on more traditional corpus
analysis will also be welcome.
Participants are invited to submit abstracts for 20 minute papers.
Proposals for round tables are also welcome. These abstracts should
not exceed 150 words (300 for round tables) and should be sent to any
of the members of the organizing committee by e-mail. Please note that
English will be the language of the Seminar. The deadline for
submission of abstracts to be considered for acceptance is 31st March,
2003. The decision of the Committee will be communicated by 30th May,

Wortnetzes GermaNet Gelegenheit geben,
Praesentationen zu u.a. folgenden
Themenschwerpunkten:
* Anwendung von GermaNet in NLP Verfahren zur Informations-
erschliessung, Dokumentklassifikation, Automatischen Text-
zusammenfassung, etc.
* GermaNet in der Lesartendisambiguierung (WSD)
* Einsatz des GermaNet beim semantischen Tagging von Korpora
* GermaNet in verschiedenen Sprachverarbeitungstools
* Theoretische Forschungen mit Hilfe des GermaNet (zu lexikalischen
Feldern, Selektionspraeferenzen, etc.)
* Erweiterungen von Wortnetzen (Fachwortschatz, Kollokationen,
Idiome)
Webseite (http://www.sfs.uni-tuebingen.de/lsd/GermaNet-Workshop)
zur Verfuegung stellen.

Lexical-semantic wordnets following the lines of the
Princeton WordNet have become popular resources within the
fields of computational linguistics and natural language processing.
This workshop aims at bringing together users and developers
of the German wordnet GermaNet in order to exchange results
and experiences as well as discuss desiderata and perspectives
related to GermaNet resp. wordnets in general. The German wordnet
is being applied in various natural language processing tasks
and on the Semantic Web. Obtaining feedback from various
users is also very important for the further development of the
ressource.
The workshop mainly addresses researchers and users from
the German-speaking community in order to keep costs
low for participants.
(An international forum will be provided by the Global
Wordnet Conference, taking place at Brno, Czech, in January 2004:
http://www.fi.muni.cz/gwc2004/).
Since this workshop is generously sponsored by the GLDV,
no conference fees will be charged.
The number of participants is limited to **35** so that
early registration is strongly recommended.
Papers and presentations are welcome on, among others, the following
topics:
* application of GermaNet in natural language processing techniques
w.r.t Information Retrieval, Document Classification, Automatic
Text Summarization, etc.
* employment of GermaNet in Word Sense Disambiguation
* use of GermaNet for semantic tagging of corpora
* employment of GermaNet in various language processing tools
* theoretical research based on GermaNet, as with respect to
lexical-semantic fields, selectional preferences, etc.
* extensions of wordnets (terminologies, collocations, idioms)
* relations to ontologies, the Semantic Web, Hypertext, RDF, XML, etc.
Papers should not exceed 10 pages, including bibliography,
figures, and acknowledgements, and should be written in German or
English. The stylesheet for submitting contributions will be
published very soon on our website:
http://www.sfs.uni-tuebingen.de/lsd/GermaNet-Workshop/.
