The Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technology (CREET) at the Open University, UK is currently advertising for up to 8 funded postgraduate research studentships starting in October 2004. I'd like to draw your attention to two areas which may be of interest to linguists: Applied Language and Literacy Studies (potential studentships in language and gender; bilingualism; academic literacies; electronic literacies and learning); and Educational Dialogue and Classroom Interaction (potential studentships in various aspects of online interaction: investigating asynchronous teaching and learning dialogues; E-Teaching Talk: Getting the most from the medium; and investigating online argumentation with a focus on methodology).

We provide excellent support for students and offer a full range of training in computer, library and presentation skills. You should have, or expect to obtain, at least a 2.1 in an undergraduate degree or Masters Degree in an appropriate discipline. You will normally be expected to live within commuting distance of Milton Keynes.

Closing date for applications: 13 April 2004. Interviews will be held during the week commencing 19 April 2004.

Informal queries can be made by email to the office of the Director of CREET. Please contact Anne Foward, the Research Secretary, on +44 (0)1908 655364 or email a.fowardopen.ac.uk. Further information and an application pack can also be obtained by writing to Anne Forward, Faculty of Education and Language Studies, Office IX, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA, UK.
