    Objectives -To provide a platform for the discussion of the practical and the professional -To provide the opportunity to highlight and discuss recent and existing research within and between groups at local, national and international levels in the areas listed below -Speech & Language Pathology -Translation and interpreting -Language related developments in ICT -Language and law, forensic linguistics -Administration and management - public and private sectors -Pragmatics and cross-cultural communication

    Modern human societies are typified, the world over, by the provision of an enormous range of services: in business and commerce, education, public administration, healthcare, social and public welfare.

    These services are almost invariably provided by groups of professionals who share common attitudes, values and practices and are frequently bound together by codes of professional ethics and principles of good practice which constrain their behaviour, and thereby, protect their clients from inadequate or inappropriate service.

    None of this would be possible without effective communication both within and between the groups involved at all levels: local, national and international. This implies a shared system of communication which regulates and facilitates the provision of services and information.

    The aim of this conference is to examine the implications of professionalism amongst language service providers, the fundamental issue of how ethical principles, which define a profession, can be harmonised with the pragmatic needs of day-to-day practice and how these are realised through language and communication.

    "Declarative Methods in Intelligent Information Processing" is one of the 8 workshops forming the "Tenth International Conference on Computer Aided Systems Theory" to be held in February 7-11, 2005 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain). The proceedings with extended papers will be published in the LNCS series of Springer Verlag after the conference.

    Deadline for Extended Abstracts:

    An extended two pages abstract, including references in English with indication of the workshop of the intended contribution must be sent by e-mail before October, 31, 2004 to the Organizing Commitee contact Alexis Quesada, aquesadadis.ulpgc.es

    For the extended abstract, you must follow instructions in Information for LNCS Authors

    Authors will be notified of acceptance by December 1, 2004. It is anticipated that the final selected full papers will be published in line with previous Eurocast meetings (Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science No 410, No 585, No 763, No 1030, No 1333, No 1798, No 2178 and No 2809). Full papers for publication are required before April 30, 2005.
