Qs: Mental Lexicon Refs; French Lang Societies

Editor for this issue: Steve Moran <stevelinguistlist.org>

We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

    Dear members of the linguistlist,

I am searching for some french examples concerning two experimental methods on the mental lexikon. The two methods are the sorting method by Osgood, Suci, Tannenbaum and the semantic differential (Hard/Miller). I am sure that these tests have been made with French subjects as well and not only with english-speaking persons. I would be pleased to receive some bibliographic references on these experiments in French language.

    Thank you for help

    Dear Linguist,

I am currently looking for information on the attitudes of French speakers to Anglicisms in French. To see this, I would like to look at letters, emails and postings by 'non-specialist' native speakers of French (i.e. non-linguists) on this topic. I have already looked at the websites for the Acadmie franaise, the association Dfense de la langue franaise and Le Monde. L'Acadmie franaise does not archive any of the letters it receives on the subject, and said it would therefore be too difficult to give me any information. I do not know if the other societies will be able to give me access to the relevant information or if they even archive it. Does anybody know of any other language societies or language advice centres that may be able to give me access to archived letters, emails or forum discussions on this issue? Any information will be much appreciated.

I will post a summary of responses

Thank you very much in advance

    Liv Walsh
