Dear Subscribers,

Since 1993, when the LINGUIST assistantships were inaugurated,
LINGUIST subscribers have financed the educations of 45 outstanding
graduate students, including this year's crew. Those of you who have
contributed to LINGUIST over the past 10 years can feel proud that you
have helped these students pursue their educational and career goals.
Please help us support the outstanding students who are now providing
you with the services that you have come to expect from LINGUIST. If
you have not yet donated to the Linguist Fund Drive, please do so
now--all of your donations go directly to student support.

Over the past few days your donations have funded another one of our
crew members--Naomi Fox. As each on of our crew members is funded, we
will post their personal letter so that you can see where your
donations go! Below is Naomi's letter.

A little over a year ago I joined the LINGUIST crew, and the past year
has been an exciting, challenging, and enriching experience. As a new
editor, I was bewildered by the appearance of chaos and thought I
would never figure out what was going on. I now know that the LINGUIST
operation actually is constant chaos, but somehow everything works.
Everyone juggles numerous and widely varied tasks and deadlines as our
site and list continue to grow. I've gotten to do a bit of everything:
programming, formatting, writing, posting, and creating web pages.
The pace is fast and sometimes stressful, but the strong work ethic
and untiring drive of my fellow staff members motivates me to strive
for excellence in my own work. It's wonderful to be a part of this
friendly, supportive and fun crew: people are always willing to lend
support both professionally and personally.

It's great to be able to work in the field of linguistics. I've been
able to develop my awareness of current issues in the field and to
expand my technological knowledge base. The experience I'm gaining at
LINGUIST is an incredible asset, both now and in the future, and I'm
grateful to our moderators, Dr. Aristar and Dr. Aristar-Dry, for
giving me this opportunity.

Without our moderators, LINGUIST would not be the great resource for
the linguistics field it has become. They contribute immense amounts
of effort and energy to make LINGUIST possible, and in every way
encourage the professional and technical growth of their staff as
well.

Additionally, without you, LINGUIST would not be able to continue its
service to the linguistic community. Your support gives the
linguistics field the incredible resource of LINGUIST, and gives
graduate students like me the opportunity of gaining valuable
experience and knowledge in linguistics and technology. Thank you for
continuing to donate to LINGUIST and preserve it as an essential and
free resource for linguistics. If you have not yet donated this year,
I encourage you to join in the effort to keep LINGUIST going. You make
all the difference!

Best

Message 2: How to Donate...

Date: 16 Mar 2004 08:56:08 -0000
From: linguist <linguistlinguistlist.org>
Subject: How to Donate...

This Year the LINGUIST List hope to raise $60,000. This money will go
to help keep the List running, by supporting all of our Student
Editors for the coming year.

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form, at:
http://www.linguistlist.org/donate.html

You can also pledge right now and pay later, at:
http://www.linguistlist.org/pledge.html

For all information on donating, including information on how to
donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:
http://www.linguistlist.org/donation.html

ALREADY PLEDGED?
If you have already pledged to LINGUIST and would now like to pay by
credit card, please go to:

http://linguistlist.org/creditcard-general.html

and select 'PAY PREVIOUS PLEDGE' as the Type of Payment from the
dropdown list provided.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is
38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
