Description:
The Department of French, Italian and Spanish invites applications for
a full-time tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of French,
effective July 1, 2005. We seek a specialist in the study of the
interface between language and culture in the second-language context
(applications from linguists, pedagogy specialists and literary
critics are welcome). The teaching load is 2/2 and includes
undergraduate and graduate teaching.
An active research program, evidence of effective teaching, as well as
native or near-native fluency in French, are required. Preferred
qualifications include a completed PhD at the time of appointment and
competence in another Romance language (especially Italian). The
successful candidate will work closely with the University of
Calgary's Language Research Centre (http://www.ucalgary.ca/lrc).
The department offers BA, MA and special-case PhD degrees in French
and Spanish. The area of second-language studies has been identified
as one of the 16 pillars of excellence in the University of Calgary
Academic Plan.
Applications should include a cover letter, a current curriculum
vitae, a writing sample and evidence of teaching
effectiveness. Applicants should also arrange for three confidential
letters of reference or their placement dossier to be received by that
date.
Consideration of applications will begin Oct. 15, 2004 and will
continue until the position is filled.
