The successful applicant must have a doctorate in English linguistics or corresponding qualifications. At the end of this appointment period, the candidate's qualifications will be re-evaluated with a view to a permanent appointment. If no applicant is qualified for either permanent or temporary appointment as Associate Professor, the University may consider appointing a candidate to the position as Assistant Professor (salary scale L.R. 25, level 38/53) for a period of up to three years and six months in order to cover some of the responsibilities associated with the position.

The Department wishes to strengthen its research and teaching expertise primarily in the area of English phonetics/phonology, but also in the areas of pragmatics and syntax. Furthermore, the Department wishes to place greater priority on the use of ICT in teaching and research. In assessing the applicants, particular emphasis will thus be placed on the applicant's qualifications in these research and teaching areas, though applicants whose qualifications are in other areas of the discipline may also be considered.

The language of instruction at the department is English, while all administration is carried out in Norwegian.

Basic teacher training is required. The successful candidate will be offered appropriate training if this requirement has not been met prior to appointment.

The salary will be set at the appropriate level (54-60, code 1011) of the current wage scale.

The application shall contain a list of the enclosures documenting the applicant's teaching qualifications. In their applications, applicants must also indicate those scholarly works or parts of works they wish to be given particular attention in the assessment. These should not exceed 10 in number.
