Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics

Call Deadline: 01-May-2006

Meeting Description:

Despite many years of research, grammatical gender still is 'one of the most
interesting and difficult of the grammatical categories' (as Corbett says in a
recent publication). This two-day workshop is intended for linguists who share
the interest and appreciate the difficulties in the phenomenon of grammatical
gender.

We invite presentations on any subject in the field, but especially on one of
the following topics:

- Development and decline of gender systems
- Semantics of gender (distribution, loss and gain)
- Gender agreement
- Gender in contact
- Gender in processing and acquisition

The following keynote speakers have confirmed their participation:

Greville Corbett (University of Surrey)
Östen Dahl (Stockholm University)
Hans-Olav Enger (University of Stavanger)
Anna Thornton (University of L'Aquila)
Peter Siemund (University of Hamburg)

In order to ensure the interactivity of the workshop, presentations will be 30
minutes plus 15 minutes discussion. Please send your abstract as a Word or PDF
document to:
