Alchemist version 2.0.5 is now available from the Linguistica project:
http://linguistica.uchicago.edu/alchemist.html Alchemist is a free, open source project designed to help linguists work
with lexicon-based projects. It was originally conceived to allow users to
easily and rapidly create an XML file with information about the
morphological structure of words in large lexicons. Users can easily select
subgroups of the lexicon in a wide range of ways, including the use of
regular expressions. Alchemist can be used to easily find subparts of a
lexicon satisfying conditions that a linguist may be interested in
exploring. A very user-friendly guide is available in Acrobat format at:
http://linguistica.uchicago.edu/alchemistv2_0_final.pdf Alchemist has been designed to allow rapid creation of databases in which
prefixes, roots, suffixes, and compounds are identified, with or without
additional morphological or morphosyntactic information.
Alchemist is a Unicode-enabled GUI-based program that runs under Windows,
MacOS, and Linux. It is written in Trolltech's QT, based on gcc.
