Subject: Committee on the Status of Women in Linguistics
This message is to alert Linguist List readers to the existence of the LSA Committee on the Status of Women in Linguistics (COSWL). The mission of COSWL is to monitor and advance the status of women in linguistics. COSWL is involved in various projects related to this mission and holds open meetings at the annual meeting of LSA to which all are welcome to attend. An overview of COSWL's projects can be found at the committee's website at www.lsadc.org/info/coswl/index.htm. Individuals who are interested in getting involved with COSWL are invited to contact the committee co-chairs, Paula Kempchinsky (paula-kempchinskyusc.edu).
On a related note, we would also like to alert readers about the Women in Linguistics Mentoring Alliance (WILMA). WILMA provides women in linguistics with mentors to assist them with professional development at all stages of their careers, from undergraduate students to women in senior positions. To learn more about WILMA or to become involved as a mentor or mentee, please visit the WILMA website at ling.wisc.edu/wilma/
