Abstract:

Most treatments of speech deal with descriptions of sounds and how theyare made. This book goes further: the idea is to develop a framework for afully explanatory theory of speech production integrating with speechperception.Emphasis is placed on the difference between static models (primarilydescriptive) and dynamic models that attempt to show how the basiclinguistics and phonetics are related in an actual human speaker/listener.

'Tatham and Morton have written an interesting book about speechproduction and perception, summing up many of the major results in thefield.' - Peter Ladefoged, Distinguished Professor of Phonetics Emeritus,UCLA, USA
