The Master of Arts programme in Romance Linguistics at Potsdam Universitybegins in fall semester 2006/07. Building on knowledge gained from a linguistics curriculum at theundergraduate (BA) level, the MA programme focuses on providing in-depthknowledge and proficiency in the following areas of Romance Linguistics:systematic linguistics (phonology, syntax, lexics), variation linguistics,language change and language history, history of linguistics, textlinguistics, methods of linguistics. Using examples as illustration,courses deal with linguistic methods and language-theoretical approaches,particularly emphasising their practicability for research and theirscientific-theoretical and interdisciplinary relevance. Each studentcontributes to a collaborative research project and completes an own,self-directed research project as part of his/her Master’s thesis.
Students study one semester at a foreign university offering courses thatfulfil the requirements of the Master of Arts programme in Romance Linguistics.Besides acquiring research competence in Romance Linguistics and appliedfields, students attain proficiency in two Romance languages in accordancewith the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference forLanguages Level C2. Students also complete an internship as part of theirdegree requirements.
