Description:

The Linguistics Program at Carleton College invites applications for a two-year, non-tenure-track position. We hope to hire someone who will teach excellent undergraduate courses in morphology, syntax, and semantics. For details about the teaching, please see our description of the curriculum in Linguistics at http://apps.carleton.edu/curricular/ling/. The Ph.D. is required (by August, 2007). We anticipate appointing a person at the level of Assistant Professor, but advanced standing is possible for candidates with significant teaching experience.

The Director of the Linguistics Program (Michael Flynn) will be a visitor at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, during the fall of 2007, so we would like to ask applicants to follow the procedure below.

Please send electronic versions of the following to Michael Flynn at mjflynncarleton.edu:

- cover letter - cv - an elaborated description of your teaching experience (about one page) - a brief statement of research interests (one page) - some preliminary ideas about how you would structure courses in introductory syntax and advanced syntax for sensational undergraduates (no more than two pages) - three letters of recommendation (referees may send these directly, if possible)

Professor Flynn will be reviewing materials in Kyoto. Also, please send hard copies of all of the above, plus no more than three samples of research, to:

Tami Little Administrative Assistant, Linguistics Program Carleton College One North College St. Northfield, MN 55057 USA

The application deadline is December 1, 2006. We will interview candidates at the Linguistics Society of America annual meeting in Anaheim. We very much welcome preliminary expressions of interest or inquiries about the position. Please direct them to Michael Flynn at his email address above.

Carleton College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. We are committed to developing our faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
