Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-stream Assistant Professor position in syntax, effective 1 July 2007. By the time of appointment applicants are expected to have a PhD in Linguistics with a specialization in syntax, preferably with a focus on a language of East Asia, as well as an excellent record of scholarly achievement and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

The responsibilities of this position include MA and PhD student supervision and the teaching of syntax in our undergraduate and graduate programs. As our department values both depth and breadth of scholarly expertise, additional specializations are welcome: semantics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics, or other. To support diversity in our academic programs, we would encourage the person we hire to develop a course on the structure of their research language. We seek an individual with the ability to contribute strongly to the research profile of the Department and its administrative functions. Collaborative, interdisciplinary research, teaching, and program development are also encouraged.

Applicants should send, in hard copy, a letter of application, curriculum vitae, 1-3 publication samples, copies of teaching evaluations, and the names and e-mail addresses of three referees to:
