Il s'agit de la première étude complète sur le désidératif védique, baséesur une collection exhaustive des exemples attestés du Rigveda aux anciensŚrautasūtras. Toutes les variations morpho-phonologiques des thèmes sontdiscutées en détail. Une analyse sémantique sous un angle nouveau laisseclairement apparaître les affinités avec le futur et le prospectif, ettente également d'expliquer la valeur individuelle des deux constituantsprincipaux, le redoublement et le suffixe -sa-. La partie monographiquecomporte l'inventaire complet des attestations avec tous les commentairesnécessaires sur les formes incertaines, sur les amendements, et sur lesparticularités morphologiques ou sémantiques de chaque thème. Plus de 400passages de toutes les périodes littéraires du védique sont cités etinterprétés. Cet ouvrage est aussi bien destiné aux indologues qu'auxlinguistes, qu'ils soient intéressés par la reconstruction du systèmeverbal indo-européen, ou intrigués par une catégorie verbaletypologiquement rare.

This is the first comprehensive research on the vedic desiderative, basedon the entire collection of the examples from the Rigveda to theŚrautasūtras. Every morpho-phonological variation in the formation of thestems is described and discussed in detail. Through a new approach, thesemantic analysis reveals clear link with the future and the prospective,and tries also to explain the value of the main two components: thereduplication and the suffix -sa-. The monography contains the completeinventory of the attestations along with commentaries on uncertain, oramendated forms, on morphological or semantical particularities of eachstem. More than 400 examples are quoted and interpreted. The book is aimedat indologists as well as linguists, whether interested in thereconstruction of the indo-european verbal system or wish to know moreabout a typologically rare verbal category.
