An international conference in 'Studies in English' will be hosted jointly by Bogazici University and IDEA in Istanbul. All proposals relating to language and linguistics in English will be considered.

Bogazici University, Department of Western Languages and Literatures andIDEA, English Language and Literature Research Association

are organizing an international conference on''STUDIES IN ENGLISH''

in Istanbul on April 24-26 2006.

The conference will concentrate on four areas:

literature,language and linguistics,translation studiescultural studies

Proposals for papers, panels and workshops of no more than 500 words accompanied bya) the name and affiliation of the presenter(s)b) your choice of the area mentioned abovec) 5 key words

should be submitted to the chairperson by mail or as e-mail attachments (word or RTF format) .

The aim of the conference is to bring together postgraduates from within the various areas of the discipline for them to present current research to their peers. 15th POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE IN LINGUISTICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER

Reminder - Call for Papers

Dear Postgraduates,

In March 1992 the University of Manchester hosted its first Postgraduate Linguistics Conference. Since then, this annual event has gained popularity and it now draws participants from across the world to exchange ideas in a relaxed but stimulating environment. The aim of the conference is to bring together postgraduates from within the various areas of the discipline for them to present current research to their peers. We hope the day will be rewarding for all, both in learning and establishing new contacts.

The PG Conference will be held at the University of Manchester on Friday 3rd March 2006, from 9.00am to 6.00pm in the Roscoe Building (Rooms 3.3 and 3.4.). We are pleased to announce that Bas Aarts, Professor of English Linguistics in the Department of English Language and Literature at University College London and the Director of the Survey of English Usage (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucledba/), will give the plenary talk from 14.00pm to 15.00pm in the Mansfield Cooper Building, Room G.19.(Check the website http://www.manchester.ac.uk/visitors/travel/ for maps and directions)

Any postgraduate student (MA or PhD) is very welcome to submit an abstract on any topic related to linguistics.

Papers will be 20 minutes in length plus 10 minutes discussion. Parallel sessions will allow twenty papers to be given.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided during the day (payment included in the registration fee), and an informal conference dinner in the evening will also be organised for all those interested. Suggestions for overnight accommodation can be provided on request.
